This page gives access to the first Italian list of cultural mediators trained on gender-based violence, a new tool proposed in the framework of the project Leaving violence. Living safe project, implemented by D.i.Re in partnership with UNHCR, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Cultural mediators are key figures in supporting asylum-seeking and refugee women in their efforts to escape from violence. This is why the Leaving violence. Living safe project has activated, since its pilot edition in 2017, a training course for cultural mediators focused on the feminist understanding of gender-based violence and on the support methodology of D.i.Re anti-violence centres, to respond to their specific needs.
Over the years, a pool of cultural mediators has been set up, who have refined their skills through progressive integration in the D.i.Re. anti-violence centres’ teams.
Implementing one of the Strategic Proposals developed last year, the project Leaving violence. Living safe now makes available to all facilities – public or private – hosting migrant asylum seeking and refugee women a list of cultural mediators specifically trained on gender-based violence, with the aim of supporting the emergence of violence and facilitating access to anti-violence centres.
Cultural mediators can be contacted through the relevant anti-violence centres, whose contact details are provided on this page. They can support asylum-seeking and refugee women either in person or through remote connections. Their remuneration is paid by the organisation requesting their professional services.
